WHAT IS AN ENDOWMENT FUND?
An endowment fund is a permanent fund that acts like a savings account for the Friends of Sarasota County Parks, Inc. (FOSCP). We have partnered with the Community Foundation of Sarasota County and the Gulf Coast Community Foundation of Venice to pool our endowment with other funds like it for greater investment return. A percent of the fund is available annually to meet the needs of FOSCP. The remainder of the earnings is reinvested in our fund to protect it against inflation and to meet our changing needs in the future.
In other words, our organization receives the benefits of the earnings on all gifts to the endowment fund, but does not bear the burden of managing the fund. This allows us to focus greater time and resources on our mission.
HOW WILL THE ENDOWMENT FUND HELP?
The earnings from our permanent endowment fund can be used to support our daily operations, provide special programs and services, make a purchase of new recreational/environmental property or to help maintain our existing parks and facilities.
None of us knows what the future holds, but we do know that right now, FOSCP plays an essential role in our community. Because the FOSCP endowment is permanent, it ensures that future generations will have access to the same quality programs, services and facilities we provide today. Your contribution to this permanent fund can help us meet our mission for many generations to come.
IS MY CONTRIBUTION TAX DEDUCTIBLE?
Absolutely! Trusts you establish or gifts you make during your lifetime generally qualify as charitable gifts for federal income tax purposes. In addition, bequest made to the Foundations in your will or trust can lower or even eliminate your estate taxes. You may want to contact your professional advisor before making a gift to the FOSCP Forever Green Endowment fund.

Of course! The Foundations and FOSCP have professional donor services advisors available to provide confidential assistance to you and your attorney or financial advisor as you create a gift that is best for you and your family.

The Friends of Sarasota County Parks (FOSCP) established the Forever Green Endowment to preserve Sarasota’s parks for generations to come. Every time someone invests in the Forever Green Endowment it enriches an important part of Sarasota parks and recreation. This unrestricted endowment provides the financial base to ensure our parks and recreation vision is fulfilled. To do this, FOSCP cultivates “friends” to create relationships between the public, our private business sector, neighborhoods, families, non-profit organizations, and visitors.
The need for recreation opportunities close to home and work is a key factor in attracting business and residents to Sarasota. Parks are one of the quickest and most effective ways to build a sense of community and improve the quality of life for all. As Sarasota continues to grow, FOSCP will continue its mission to provide for future challenges, expansion of community outreach programs and the financial security of Sarasota parks.
